Jack-o-Lanterns glow in Philadelphia

The Glow: A Jack-o-Lantern Experience has come to Philadelphia and it’s a highlight among fall events. The Glow is essentially an outdoor exhibit in Fairmount Park that showcases hundreds of Jack-o-Lanterns, from as simple as a scary face, to as complex as the Phillie Phanatic in perfect detail. It makes for an experience that won’t have you as frightened as a haunted house, but will leave you far more impressed.

As you walk around the grounds, you travel through different themed sections such as a dinosaur area, a Marvel area, and an aquarium made of pumpkins. They also highlighted brilliant minds with pumpkins carved for Albert Einstein & Bill Nye, as well as famous paintings such as Starry Night and The Scream. Some were real pumpkins and some were molds, but all were masterfully done that truly qualifies them as art.

The Glow is in four cities this year, including Pittsburgh and Washington DC but each city has their own flare to capture the locality. In Philadelphia, that included pumpkins carved with local celebrities (Bradley Cooper & Kevin Hart), a Phillies logo, and an entire Lombardi Trophy made of pumpkins to celebrate the Eagles Super Bowl victory. They even dipped into the spooky aspect of Halloween with a graveyard scene; tombstones were marked for Bill Belichick and Rob Gronkowski featuring the date they lost to Philadelphia.

This art exhibit isn’t a fright fest, but it’s worthy of being in your Halloween-centric festivities. It’s astonishing to see how much the carvers were able to capture in pumpkins and you’re guaranteed to have a pleasant fall evening.
